Varanasi undergoes infrastructure and sports facility upgrades

Varanasi is undergoing significant infrastructure and cultural development through new investment and construction projects.

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) totaling over Rs 69.21 crore under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. A Rs 48 crore portion of this investment will be used to renovate 119 public parks, adding amenities such as landscaping, walking pathways, open gyms, and improved lighting. Additionally, two modern food street hubs will be developed in Sarnath and Maidagin. A separate Rs 21.21 crore agreement with the Varanasi Development Authority (VDA) aims to revitalize historical routes across the city. These projects involve partnerships with the Kashi Integrated Parking and Recreational Foundation (KIPRF) and Varanasi Smart City Limited (VSCL).

Simultaneously, the Varanasi International Cricket Stadium is nearing completion in Ganjari village. The 30,000-capacity facility features a design inspired by Lord Shiva, including trident-shaped floodlights, a crescent-shaped roof, and a media centre shaped like a damru. Construction is approximately 80% complete, with the stadium expected to open by October 2026.
