Vard terminates contracts with Maxship, affecting 100 workers

The shipyard group Vard has terminated contracts with the subcontractor Maxship Inter, resulting in 100 Polish workers losing their jobs and wages. The workers, who were based at the Langsten shipyard in Tomrefjord, Vestnes, were required to vacate the premises and collect their tools under security supervision after their access cards were revoked.

Birgit Aarseth, manager at Vard Interiors, stated that the decision followed breaches of Vard’s ethical guidelines. These guidelines cover integrity, responsible business practices, compliance with laws, and respect for fundamental human rights. Vard maintains that the responsibility for notifying employees lies with the subcontractor.

Roman Adamczewski, CEO of Maxship Inter, described a chaotic situation, noting that workers are facing significant financial uncertainty regarding their families in Poland. Maxship also has employees at other Vard locations in Søviknes, Brattvåg, and Romania.
