Varde Municipality welcomes over 400 new conscripts as Danish defence expands

The Danish Defence has begun a major expansion in Vestjylland, opening the extended 11‑month conscription programme at Varde and Oksbøl barracks. From today, the first groups of conscripts, both men and women, have started their service, raising the annual number of trainees in the area to more than 400.

Varde Municipality is supporting the newcomers with welcome events, information on local cultural and recreational facilities, and a discount scheme for shops, restaurants and leisure activities. Mayor Sarah Andersen said the municipality is proud of the Defence’s presence and is ready to ensure the soldiers feel at home and valued during their service.
