Varennes Mayor Martin Damphousse: CMQ closes favoritism investigation

The Commission municipale du Québec (CMQ) has closed its investigation into allegations of favoritism involving Varennes Mayor Martin Damphousse. The investigation followed a complaint filed six months ago by municipal councillors Carine Durocher and Gaétan Marcil.

A CMQ spokesperson stated that the Direction des enquêtes et des poursuites en intégrité municipale closed the file based on the elements currently in its possession. Due to the confidentiality of investigations, the Commission declined to provide specific details regarding the decision or the steps taken during the inquiry.

Mayor Damphousse previously faced controversy regarding allegations that he acted to favor a real estate transaction for his daughter. He has indicated that he intends to comment on the closure of the file in the coming days.
