Italian law enforcement targets fraud and counterfeit goods in regional operations
Law enforcement agencies in northern Italy have conducted several operations targeting fraud and consumer safety violations.
In Brescia, the Guardia di Finanza seized over 580,000 unsafe or counterfeit items from 17 commercial establishments. This included more than 286,000 school and stationery products, such as notebooks and pens, which lacked proper safety standards or Italian-language labeling. Two individuals were reported to authorities for counterfeiting and receiving stolen goods.
In Varese, authorities investigated 26 cases of suspected social subsidy fraud, involving approximately 156,043 euros. The irregularities primarily concerned benefits like the ‘Reddito di cittadinanza’ and ‘Assegno di inclusione’. The investigation resulted in 20 reports to judicial authorities.
Additionally, in Isola della Scala, local police and the Guardia di Finanza investigated fraudulent fundraising efforts. A woman admitted to using falsified medical documents regarding her child's health to solicit donations for purported medical expenses.
