Varese disability sports face volunteer and facility shortages

In Varese, local organizations are highlighting both the benefits and the significant hurdles facing sports for people with disabilities. Representatives from Polha Varese, Varese con l’H, and the Associazione Medico Sportiva Varesina emphasize that physical activity is vital for fostering autonomy, social relationships, and life skills beyond the family environment.

However, several obstacles persist, including a shortage of volunteers, a lack of accessible facilities, and the absence of a public sports medicine service. These challenges are particularly acute as the volunteer base faces an aging demographic. The discussion serves as a precursor to the “Disabilità e Sport nel cuore” conference scheduled for October 31 at the Ville Ponti Congress Center.
