Varese opens Stazione di Posta to combat extreme poverty

The city of Varese has inaugurated the Stazione di Posta in via Maspero, a new social service hub designed to support individuals facing extreme poverty and homelessness. Funded by over 1.7 million euros from the EU’s PNRR (Next Generation EU) funds, the project includes the complete renovation of a service center, a dormitory, and seven municipal housing units.

The facility serves as a single point of reference for vulnerable populations, offering multidisciplinary support such as job and housing assistance, legal aid, administrative consultancy, linguistic mediation, and medical triage. The initiative is expected to increase the city’s total reception capacity by more than 43%.

In addition to the service center, the renovated night dormitory provides 24 beds for medium-to-long-term stays for local residents. This is complemented by a temporary housing network consisting of nine municipal apartments and social private structures capable of accommodating up to 35 people.
