Varese province launches ‘Stazioni Sicure 2026’ railway security project

The ‘Stazioni Sicure 2026’ project has launched in the Varese province to increase surveillance and security at local public transport hubs and railway stations. Initiated by the Prefecture of Varese and funded by the Lombardy Region, the program involves coordinated efforts by local police forces from several municipalities, including Busto Arsizio, Saronno, Tradate, Castellanza, Caronno Pertusella, and Gerenzano.

The initiative aims to prevent illegal activities and combat urban decay to improve accessibility and livability for commuters and residents. The Lombardy Region is providing 60,000 euros in funding, distributed equally among the lead municipalities of Varese, Busto Arsizio, and Gallarate. Under the plan coordinated by Busto Arsizio, more than 130 extraordinary patrol services are scheduled to be conducted in sensitive areas by the end of the year, totaling over 1,000 additional man-hours of work.
