Salerno officials face criticism after Frecce Tricolori Air Show causes traffic chaos
In Salerno, the recent Air Show by the Frecce Tricolori has sparked intense political debate following widespread traffic paralysis and safety concerns. Local councilor Ersilia Trotta has formally requested the resignation of Mobility Councilor Rocco Galdi, citing a failure to manage the massive influx of people and a lack of adequate traffic regulation plans. Councilor Gabriele Casaburi also filed an inquiry regarding the lack of peripheral parking and shuttle services, as well as safety risks near the Lungomare Tafuri, where crowds reportedly bypassed barriers in areas prone to structural instability. Mayor Vincenzo De Luca defended the administration, stating that the extraordinary scale of the event made total traffic control impossible.
Other regional infrastructure issues are also being reported across Italy. In Calabria, Councilor Elisabetta Barbuto has introduced a motion to address the accumulation of waste along roadsides, which poses fire and flooding risks. In Florence, residents have raised concerns regarding deteriorating conditions in the Fortezza da Basso underpass and ongoing public lighting upgrades. Additionally, ANAS has commenced night-time roadwork on the Alessandria Tangenziale to improve pavement quality, while in Pescara, new experimental traffic flow measures have been implemented in via Monte di Campli.
