Varese: Unlicensed driver arrested after 20km police chase

A 22-year-old woman has been arrested following a high-speed police chase spanning approximately 20 kilometers between Varese and Grantola. The incident began when police attempted to signal the driver to stop in the Via dei Mille area of Varese. Instead of complying, the woman, who did not possess a driver's license, accelerated and fled through several municipalities, including Induno Olona and Bedero Valcuvia.

During the pursuit, the driver reportedly performed dangerous overtaking maneuvers in oncoming traffic and intentionally rammed two police vehicles in an attempt to evade capture. The chase concluded in Grantola when a third police unit blocked her path, causing her to lose control and crash into two parked cars.

The suspect, an Italian citizen of Moroccan origin residing in Luino, faces charges of resistance to a public official, injury, and property damage. During her validation hearing, she expressed remorse in tears, stating she fled because she was afraid of being stopped without a license. The vehicle she was driving, a Opel Crossland belonging to her partner, was subject to administrative seizure. The passenger in the vehicle was reportedly a Moroccan citizen without a valid residence permit.
