Varginha and Maricá report significant economic growth

Varginha has experienced a significant economic surge, recording a 50.62% increase in its preliminary Fiscal Value Added (VAF) for 2025. The municipality's fiscal value rose from R$ 16.543 billion in 2024 to R$ 24.917 billion in 2025, driven by growth in logistics, foreign trade, and agribusiness. This expansion has allowed Varginha to surpass Pouso Alegre, becoming the second-largest economy in the South of Minas region and the seventh largest in the state of Minas Gerais. Extrema remains the regional leader with R$ 43.546 billion.

In another economic development, Maricá continues to lead Brazil in oil royalty collections. Between January and July 2026, the city received approximately R$ 1.9 billion in special petroleum participations. While the municipal government projects annual collections to exceed R$ 4 billion for 2026, some specialists suggest the total could surpass R$ 5 billion. Maricá is followed in the national ranking by Saquarema and Macaé.
