Japan celebrates Halloween with diverse regional events and retail promotions
Various regions across Japan are hosting diverse Halloween-themed events and promotions throughout late October 2026.
In retail, Hokka Hokka Tei is running a five-day campaign from October 26 to 30, offering a free piece of chicken cutlet with the purchase of select bento boxes. IKEA is hosting a one-day Halloween Night Shopping event on October 30 at its Tokyo-Bay, Shin-Misato, and Fukuoka Shin-gu stores, featuring extended hours, themed menus, and treasure hunts.
Regional festivities include Otaru Halloween 2026, which features a costume election and an immersive haunted house in the Sakaimachi district. Other local activities include a unique “plain Halloween” costume contest in Ashikaga, various community festivals in cities like Itami, Izumo, and Kawasaki, and themed dessert offerings from FLO Prestige.
Entertainment and family-oriented events are also widespread, such as Sanrio Puroland’s monster-themed celebration and workshop activities at shopping centers like Izumiya in Suita.
