Bolivia enacts law for solidarity air travel for critical patients

President Rodrigo Paz has promulgated Law No. 1780, which guarantees solidarity air travel for patients with cancer, terminal illnesses, or those in critical condition who must travel to different cities for specialized medical treatment. The law applies to both national and international flights through public and private airlines.

Beneficiaries are entitled to one companion, or two if the patient is a minor. To access this benefit, patients must provide a medical certificate from a specialized hospital. While the airfare itself is covered, patients remain responsible for additional taxes, such as the Air Exit Tax (ISAE).

To support the aviation industry, the state will implement an economic compensation mechanism allowing airlines to deduct the cost of these solidarity tickets from their Corporate Income Tax (IUE). Airlines are legally obligated to reserve necessary space and are prohibited from unjustifiably delaying the issuance of tickets.
