Varivode massacre: 31 years since killing of ten Serbian civilians
Miodrag Linta, President of the Union of Serbs in the Region, marked the 31st anniversary of the killings of ten Serbian civilians in the village of Varivode near Knin. The incident occurred on September 28, 1995, nearly two months after the conclusion of Operation Storm.
The victims were elderly civilians with an average age of approximately 67. Linta noted that some residents remained in their homes after the conflict due to assurances of personal and property security provided by then-Croatian President Franjo Tuđman, though these promises were not upheld.
Despite legal proceedings initiated by the Croatian judiciary in 1996, no one has been definitively convicted for the killings in Varivode. Linta criticized the Croatian justice system as biased and proposed the establishment of a Memorial Center for Serbian Victims in the former Yugoslavia to advocate for international recognition of the suffering of the Serbian people.
