Varna celebrates official city holiday on August 15

The Bulgarian coastal city of Varna is celebrating its official holiday on August 15, a date coinciding with the religious feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the city's patron saint. Since 1993, the day has been observed as an official holiday, and in 2007, it was designated as a non-working public holiday for the city.

The celebrations include a variety of religious, military, and cultural events. The day began with a holy liturgy at the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, followed by a military ritual for the raising of the flags of the Republic of Bulgaria, the European Union, and the Varna Municipality.

Cultural programming features maritime festivals, sailing regattas, and numerous concerts. Highlights include an awards ceremony at the Summer Theater, a classical concert by the State Opera Varna, and a large-scale festive concert in the Sea Garden featuring various musical artists, concluding with a traditional fireworks display.
