Varna fishing port modernization project reaches 20% completion

Modernization efforts for the Varna fishing port in Bulgaria have reached approximately 15–20% completion. The project is being executed in two distinct stages to ensure that fishing activities and vessel operations are not interrupted during construction.

Work currently focuses on installing water supply, sewage, and cable lines. Future steps include the installation of a video surveillance system and the placement of mobile facilities once the necessary infrastructure is in place. Technical equipment and life-saving gear have already been purchased. The project is being implemented under the Maritime Affairs, Fisheries and Aquaculture Program 2021–2027, with a final completion deadline set for November 2027. The municipality plans to secure advance payments for the project up to approximately 550,000 euros, excluding VAT.

Additionally, local authorities approved a local action plan to prevent water pollution from e-waste through the eWAsTER international project, funded by Interreg Euro-MED 2021–2027. This plan aims to improve the collection, reuse, repair, and recycling of electronic waste without creating additional financial burdens for the municipal budget.
