Varna Governor and Japanese Ambassador discuss economic partnership

Varna Regional Governor Mario Smurkov met with Chikahisa Sumi, the Ambassador of Japan to Bulgaria, to discuss deepening cooperation in education, culture, investment, and economic development. The discussions focused on attracting Japanese investment to the Varna region.

Key areas of cooperation include academic partnerships between Japanese companies and local institutions, such as the Technical University – Varna and the N. I. Vaptsarov Naval Academy, specifically regarding training for the maritime industry. The Ambassador also highlighted the high quality of Bulgarian specialists in software development, mathematics, and engineering.

Regarding infrastructure, Ambassador Sumi noted that improving transport connectivity and developing public-private partnerships are essential prerequisites for attracting further investment. Additionally, both parties discussed expanding the reach of Japanese culture events in Bulgaria beyond Sofia to include the Varna region.
