Varna Finance Commission rejects New Year's concert funding
The Finance Commission of the Varna local parliament has rejected a proposal to allocate 114,000 euros for the city's New Year's Eve concert. The planned event, titled ‘Together on New Year's Eve’, was intended to feature American singer Marty Cintron of the group No Mercy as the headliner, with a projected fee of approximately 33,100 euros.
Council members raised concerns regarding transparency, specifically requesting more detailed information on the fees for other performers and organizers. While the budget included allocations for lighting, sound, a 3D LED stage, and online broadcasting, the commission did not approve the expenditure.
In separate municipal decisions, the commission approved approximately 194,000 euros to help a Varna maternity hospital cover outstanding debts to suppliers. Additionally, 70,000 euros were allocated to support 52 couples facing reproductive challenges, and funding was granted for new city transport buses and a photovoltaic power plant.
