Varna names Dara and Ivan Ivanov honorary citizens

Singer Dara, astronomer Ivan Ivanov, and Dutch public figures Ada d’Amkur (posthumously) and Ton Delemar have been awarded the title of ‘Honorary Citizen of Varna’. The ceremony took place at the Summer Theater and was led by Mayor Blagomir Kotsev and Municipal Council Chairman Hristo Dimitrov.

Dara was recognized as the first Bulgarian performer to win the Eurovision Song Contest and for her contributions to the development of Bulgarian music. During her speech, she emphasized the importance of supporting culture and youth-led causes.

Astronomer Ivan Ivanov received the honor for his long-standing work with the National Astronomical Observatory and Planetarium in Varna, as well as for establishing the national astronomy olympiad. The award also coincides with his 80th birthday.
