Varna police search for suspect after donation box theft
Police in Varna, Bulgaria, are searching for a man who stole a donation box intended for the medical treatment of 8-year-old Rayan. The theft occurred at a fast-food establishment in the Mladost district around 3:10 AM. According to reports, the suspect used a screwdriver to open a window before taking the box.
The stolen funds, estimated to be between 300 and 400 euros, were collected to support Rayan, who has Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and severe hearing loss. The money was intended to fund essential medical examinations and procedures in Istanbul to determine his future treatment steps.
Establishment management noted that while the venue had been broken into previously, the donation box had not been targeted until now. Security footage of the incident has been shared on social media in hopes that the public can help identify the individual. Following the incident, staff plan to store donation boxes in more secure locations overnight.
