Varna proposes body cameras for public transport inspectors

Proposed changes to the regulations for public transport in Varna include equipping transport inspectors with body cameras. The initiative, discussed by the Municipal Council's transport commission, aims to prevent and reduce aggression toward employees through the visible presence of recording devices.

Under the proposal, cameras would be worn prominently on uniforms, and passengers would be notified of audio and video recording via clear visual stickers. Data collection and storage would be managed by TASRUD in compliance with GDPR and local data protection laws. Market consultations are currently underway, with the total investment required for the devices expected to be determined after September 21, 2026.

The transport enterprise is currently facing staffing shortages, operating with approximately 90 inspectors out of a total staff of 184. Additionally, officials noted that while bank card payments are not yet available via validators, work is ongoing to implement this feature in the near future.
