Varna to build second lake bridge as part of Black Sea highway
Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Ivan Shishkov said a second bridge over Varna Lake will be built as part of the planned Black Sea motorway, not as an independent structure. The bridge, about 550 m long, is included in both of the two route options for the roughly 94 km highway that will link Varna and Burgas and become part of the trans‑European transport network. Environmental reviews propose alternative alignments with shorter spans of about 320 m or 270 m to limit ecological impact.
The Varna municipal council also approved a substantial cut to the budget for the city’s August 15 holiday programme. The original €153,000 allocation for the event was halved, reducing the proposed fees for performers DARA and Paphi Hans. Mayor Blagomir Kocev noted that the remuneration figures were set by the artists’ managers, not the administration, and the council will decide whether to proceed with the revised programme.
