Varna to host Iliya Kirchev memorial youth football tournament

The Iliya Kirchev memorial youth football tournament is scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 6, at the Lokomotiv sports complex in Varna. The event is organized by the Varna Municipality Sport Directorate, FC Spartak 1918, and the Zonal Council of the Bulgarian Football Union.

The competition will feature four teams from Varna and the surrounding region, consisting of players born in 2014. The matches will follow 9-a-side regulations with two 30-minute halves. Participants will receive special medals, and individual awards will be presented for the most valuable player, best goalkeeper, and best striker. A special prize, a symbolic jersey, will be awarded to the best defender.

The tournament honors the memory of Iliya Kirchev, a legendary defender for Spartak and the Bulgarian national team. Kirchev holds the record for most appearances for his club in the 'A' Group and was a member of the Bulgarian Olympic team that won bronze in Melbourne in 1956.
