Vasco da Gama seeks venue for Copa Sudamericana semifinal against Boca Juniors

Vasco da Gama is facing challenges in determining the venue for the second leg of the Copa Sudamericana semifinal against Boca Juniors, scheduled for October 20. Due to Conmebol regulations requiring a minimum capacity of 30,000 spectators, Vasco’s home stadium, São Januário, is ineligible.

The club is prioritizing the Maracanã as the primary option but faces resistance from the stadium's administration consortium, managed by Flamengo and Fluminense, which has cited pitch wear as a reason for previous refusals. Boca Juniors has indicated it will require a minimum quota of approximately 4,000 tickets for its supporters, a requirement that further necessitates a larger venue like the Maracanã or the Nilton Santos stadium.

If a local solution cannot be reached, Vasco is considering hosting the match in Brasília at the Mané Garrincha stadium. The club has expressed intentions to seek legal action if the Maracanã is denied. The first leg of the semifinal will take place at La Bombonera in Argentina on October 13.
