Vasco da Gama defeats Vitória 1-0 in Copa do Brasil quarterfinals
Vasco da Gama secured a 1-0 victory against Vitória in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil quarterfinals at São Januário. Despite playing with ten men for over 80 minutes following the early expulsion of Cauan Barros, Vasco managed to take the lead through a second-half goal by Andrés Gómez.
Following the match, Vasco director Admar Lopes criticized the officiating, labeling the red card shown to Barros a “grotesque error” and protesting a missed penalty. Vasco's goalkeeper, Léo Jardim, was also praised for critical saves in the closing minutes to preserve the lead.
Vasco now holds a one-goal advantage heading into the second leg at the Barradão, where they can progress with a draw. Vitória must win by at least two goals to advance directly, otherwise, the tie will proceed to penalties.
