Vasco da Gama board backs president Pedrinho, demands transparency on SAF sale

The Conselho de Beneméritos of Vasco da Gama met on 3 May with club president Pedrinho in attendance. The council voiced institutional unity but pressed for greater openness regarding the proposed sale of the club’s SAF. It requested the creation of a commission to examine the Memorandum of Understanding and related contracts, involving representatives of all club powers.

Pedrinho defended the club’s finances, rejecting accusations by investor José Lamacchia that Vasco was bankrupt. Council president Luis Manuel Fernandes noted the recent judicial decision that removed the club’s representatives from the SAF administration, describing it as an external interference that caused “gigantic institutional instability.” The council reiterated its role as a moderating body protecting the club’s patrimony and called for reinstating the club’s rights in the SAF governance.

The meeting did not reach a consensus on the commission’s formation, but the council’s recommendation for full transparency was recorded as a priority for the club’s future negotiations.
