Vasco da Gama drops Paulinho transfer after salary hurdle

Coach Pedro Emanuel recommended that Vasco da Gama sign 33‑year‑old Portuguese striker Paulinho, who is under contract with Mexican club Toluca until 2029. The player has scored 61 goals in 88 league matches for Toluca and won multiple domestic titles, drawing Vasco's interest.

Negotiations stalled because Paulinho earns roughly US$2.3 million a year and his long‑term contract would require a high transfer fee. The Brazilian club deemed the cost beyond its budget and decided to abandon the pursuit, opting to explore other attacking options.
