Vasco da Gama earns promotion to Brazilian women's top flight
Vasco da Gama has secured promotion to the first division of Brazilian women's football. Following a 2-1 victory against Taubaté in the second leg of the Série A2 quarterfinals, and having previously won the first match 2-0, the club confirmed its return to the elite level for the 2027 season.
The achievement coincides with the club's 128th anniversary and 103 years of women's football history. The club's women's team has a long legacy, dating back to 1923, though the sport faced a ban in Brazil by the government in 1941 until its official recognition in 1983. Vasco was also the starting point for the career of legendary player Marta, who joined the club in 2000 at the age of 14.
