Vasco da Gama names training field after legendary coach Antônio Lopes

Vasco da Gama announced that Campo 1 at the Moacyr Barbosa training centre has been renamed in honour of former coach Antônio Lopes. The ceremony on 31 July 2026 was attended by club president Pedrinho, who highlighted Lopes as the most successful trainer in the club’s history.

Lopes, who guided Vasco to the 1998 Libertadores, the 1997 Brasileiro, the 1999 Rio‑São‑Paulo tournament and three state championships, said he was moved and proud to see his name on the field, reaffirming his lifelong bond with the club.
