Vasco da Gama SAF remains under judicial intervention as new interventor appointed

On 8 July 2026 the Rio de Janeiro 6ª Vara Empresarial rejected Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama’s request for reconsideration and upheld the court‑ordered intervention in the club’s Sociedade Anônima do Futebol (SAF). Judge Simone Gastesi Chevrand also named lawyer Athos de Andrade Figueira Neves as the new judicial interventor, replacing Samantha Mendes Longo.

The intervention is limited to administrative matters – governance, transparency, accounting and information flow between the SAF’s organs – and does not affect the club’s sporting activities. Vasco’s president Pedrinho and two other council members remain suspended from the SAF’s administration. The club and investor Marcos Lamachia argue that the intervention hampers the final stages of a planned sale of 90 % of the SAF to Almirante Participações, but the judge affirmed that the measure does not block the transaction.

The decision notes that the interventor’s role is temporary, aimed at restoring proper governance and will not replace the executives who continue to manage player contracts, coaching appointments and day‑to‑day football operations.
