Vasco da Gama seeks new defender before offloading Alan Saldivia
Vasco da Gama is planning to sign a right‑footed central defender with strong aerial ability before agreeing to sell Uruguayan defender Alan Saldivia. Argentine side Huracán has shown interest in acquiring Saldivia.
Vasco purchased 55% of Saldivia’s economic rights for a total of US$1.5 million – US$1.2 million fixed and US$300,000 contingent on appearance targets – and retained an option to buy an additional 15% for US$350,000. Saldivia, signed in January 2026 on a contract through 2028, has struggled to become a regular starter, rotating with Carlos Cuesta and delivering irregular performances after recovering from a calf injury. Coach Pedro Emanuel currently relies on defenders Robert Renan, Carlos Cuesta, Lucas Freitas and Saldivia. Earlier in June, Vasco had offered Saldivia to Uruguay’s Peñarol.
