Vasco da Gama seeks to retain defender Robert Renan amid European interest
Vasco da Gama is working to secure the permanent transfer of defender Robert Renan despite interest from clubs in England and Portugal. Currently on loan from Zenit Saint Petersburg, the 23-year-old has become a key component of the team's defensive system.
The existing agreement includes a purchase option set at 8 million euros (approximately R$ 47.5 million), which Vasco must exercise by November. The club has communicated its intention to proceed with the negotiation. The move is part of a broader investment plan supported by Almirante Participações S/A, the company led by Marcos Lamacchia that is set to take over the club's SAF (Sociedade Anônima do Futebol).
Renan, a lifelong supporter of the club, has expressed a desire to remain in Rio de Janeiro. He has made 51 appearances during the current season and has been a consistent starter alongside players such as Carlos Cuesta.
