Vasco da Gama completes Santiago Sosa transfer from Racing

Racing Club initially rejected Vasco da Gama's US$7.5 million offer for 27‑year‑old midfielder Santiago Sosa, demanding around US$10 million. After further talks, Vasco agreed to a US$7 million fee (about R$35 million) and secured the player on a contract running to the end of 2029, with a salary more than double his earnings in Argentina.

Vasco’s director of football, Admar Lopes, travelled to Buenos Aires to finalize payment terms, discussing a possible loan‑with‑obligation‑to‑buy structure. Sosa, the captain of Racing and a regular starter, was expected in Rio de Janeiro on 27 July for a medical exam and to sign the contract. The club aims to register him in time for the Copa do Brasil round‑of‑16 match against Fluminense on 1 August, viewing the signing as a major midfield reinforcement.

The transfer marks a notable move for Vasco as they reinforce their squad amid a relegation battle in the Brazilian league, while Racing retains a key player for the remainder of their season.
