Vasco negotiates R$2 billion SAF sale to Marcos Lamacchia, stepson of Palmeiras president Leila Pereira

Vasco da Gama is in talks to sell 90% of its football department assets to Marcos Lamacchia for a price reported to exceed R$2 billion. Lamacchia is the stepson of Palmeiras president Leila Pereira, who told a podcast that she is not involved in the negotiations but praised her stepson's capabilities, adding that any club owned by him would be a "great business". Pereira also reiterated her support for the SAF (sociedade anônima do futebol) model, arguing that a club needs a private owner to ensure continuity.

The sale is contested by 777 Carioca, a subsidiary of U.S. firm 777 Partners, which previously controlled Vasco. The subsidiary filed a legal challenge claiming it still holds 70% of Vasco’s shares, with 39% subscribed, and sought to block the transaction. Since 15 May 2024 the effects of the previous contract with 777 Partners have been suspended, and the club’s associative structure has taken over SAF management.
