Palmeiras defeats Vasco in Copa do Brasil semifinal first leg

Palmeiras secured a 1-0 victory over Vasco da Gama in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil semifinals at Nubank Parque. The decisive goal was scored by midfielder Maurício in the 24th minute following an assist from Marlon Freitas.

The match was marked by significant controversy regarding officiating. Vasco players and officials protested a non-call on a potential handball by Palmeiras defender Alexander Barboza during a challenge with Lescano. Despite the appeal, referee Anderson Daronco and the VAR did not review the play. Additionally, Vasco defender Alan Saldivia was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.

Vasco director Admar Lopes criticized the officiating as “completely shameful,” citing inconsistent disciplinary criteria. Palmeiras coach Abel Ferreira stated he would no longer comment on refereeing in press conferences to avoid further suspensions. The second leg is scheduled for November 8 at São Januário.
