Vasco Rossi pursues legal action over social media defamation
Italian rock singer Vasco Rossi has announced legal action against a social media user following a dispute regarding his 1984 arrest. The singer responded to accusations on Instagram and Facebook, where a user called him “infame” (infamous) and claimed he cooperated with authorities to reduce his sentence.
Rossi denied these claims, stating that he was actually the one reported to the public prosecutor by an informant regarding a cocaine sale, which led to his 22-day detention. He clarified that he did not provide names to secure a lighter sentence, but rather that someone else provided his name, leading to his incarceration.
Legal counsel, including attorney Guido Magnisi, is evaluating a lawsuit that may include charges of aggravated defamation and identity theft. Preliminary investigations suggest the user may have employed “digital disguise,” using the name and photograph of another person to launch the attack.
