Vascular health experts warn against ignoring silent signs of venous disease
Medical experts are highlighting the importance of recognizing vascular health signs, noting that many individuals, particularly men, often ignore symptoms like visible veins, swelling, or spots when pain is absent. Vascular surgeon Dr. Aline Lamaita observes that approximately 90% of the men she treats seek consultation only due to the insistence of partners. While muscle definition and reduced body fat from exercise can make veins more visible, doctors warn that persistent, dilated, and tortuous veins may indicate actual varicose veins rather than just fitness-related changes.
In Brazil, an estimated 40% of the population will face some form of venous problem during their lifetime. Experts, including Dr. Caio Focássio, emphasize that conditions such as varicose veins, deep vein thrombosis, and aneurysms can significantly impact quality of life. Aneurysms are noted as particularly dangerous because they are often silent diseases that remain asymptomatic for long periods. Prevention and medical monitoring are recommended to address risks associated with prolonged sitting or standing and to manage circulatory health.
