Vaseline recommended as affordable solution for dry winter skin

To combat dry, flaky, and tight skin during winter, applying a thin layer of plain white Vaseline before bed can serve as an effective and inexpensive protective measure. Cold air, wind, and dry indoor heating, combined with frequent hand washing using warm water and soap, often lead to skin irritation and peeling.

Unlike many creams, Vaseline works by creating a protective barrier that prevents moisture loss rather than adding water to the skin. For best results, hands should be washed with lukewarm water and dried thoroughly, especially between the fingers, before applying a thin layer to the hands and joints. Wearing thin cotton gloves overnight can further enhance the treatment, though it is not strictly necessary. Consistent use is recommended to see gradual improvements in skin softness.
