Vasil Mihaylov detained under Greek arrest warrant
Vasil Mihaylov, the son of a prosecutor, will remain in custody despite the imminent expiration of his current sentence in Samoranovo. Although his existing sentence was nearing its end due to time served during pre-trial detention, the Kyustendil District Court has ordered his detention under a European Arrest Warrant issued by Greece.
Greek authorities are seeking Mihaylov in connection with an investigation involving participation in an organized criminal group, causing serious bodily harm, and organized or armed robbery. The allegations include the theft of a laptop from a vehicle and an attack on a businessman from whom documents and approximately 5,500 euros were stolen.
Lawyer Dimitar Markovski noted that while his release might have been legally possible due to the deduction of prior detention time, the European Arrest Warrant makes release unlikely. The Bulgarian court will now oversee the conditions regarding his potential extradition to Greece.
