Moldova’s prime‑minister‑designate Vasile Tofan outlines government programme and EU accession plan

President Maia Sandu appointed businessman Vasile Tofan as prime‑minister‑designate on 11 July. He has 15 days to present a government programme and a list of cabinet ministers to Parliament for a confidence vote.

To prepare the programme, Tofan has concluded consultations with the 16 interim ministers, asking each to submit notes on top priorities, existing bottlenecks, EU‑integration obligations and possible administrative cost cuts. He said the meetings gave him “a clearer picture of the situation in each area.”

He will continue talks this week with representatives of civil society, business associations and parliamentary fractions, emphasizing a government focused on a few clear priorities, disciplined use of public funds and decisions that start from their impact on people’s lives.

In parallel, Moldova opened EU accession negotiations for Cluster 6 (external relations) and Tofan reiterated the need to accelerate the remaining negotiation chapters and sign the accession treaty. The reform‑focused civil‑society group Promo‑LEX also urged the future government to create a single, accountable mechanism for the reintegration of the Transnistrian region.
