Vasilevska urges Bulgaria to respect ECHR rulings on Macedonian minority

Ivanka Vasilevska, a Member of Parliament from VMRO-DPMNE, has emphasized that Bulgaria must respect the rulings of the European Court of Human Rights regarding the Macedonian minority. She specifically highlighted the ongoing issue of the registration of the OMO ‘Ilinden-Pirin’ organization.

Vasilevska noted that while certain chapters in the Council of Europe have been closed, the obligation to fulfill Strasbourg court rulings remains a critical and sensitive issue for Macedonians living in Bulgaria. She stated that the situation regarding OMO ‘Ilinden-Pirin’ is under constant monitoring by the Macedonian mission in Strasbourg and other relevant Council of Europe factors.

Regarding North Macedonia’s European integration, Vasilevska stated that the ruling majority remains focused on delivering the Reform Agenda. She stressed the importance of completing domestic tasks, including judicial reforms, strengthening the rule of law, improving higher education, and ensuring accessible healthcare to meet European Union standards.
