Vasilis Oikonomou, former Belgian Consul, passes away
Vasilis Oikonomou, a prominent figure in Patras, has passed away. Born in 1931, Oikonomou led a diverse life as an entrepreneur and diplomat.
After receiving a French education in Greece, he moved to French Cameroon in 1949 at the age of 18, where he engaged in business for several decades. He returned to Greece in 1976, collaborating with major Patras-based companies to produce garments for French fashion houses, contributing to the city's industrial and commercial era.
From 2002 to 2012, Oikonomou served as the Consul of Belgium, a role for which he was decorated by the Belgian state. In his later years, he pursued interests in piano and antique furniture restoration.
