Vasilis Zoulias discusses addiction recovery and social stigma
Greek fashion designer Vasilis Zoulias has spoken publicly about his personal battle with addiction, describing the experience as living in an “absolute martyred darkness.” In a social media post, Zoulias shared his journey toward recovery, emphasizing the importance of seeking help from specialists who have personally experienced similar struggles.
Zoulias’s comments were prompted by the death of Presley Gerber, the 27-year-old son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and Rand Gerber, who passed away in a rehabilitation clinic. The designer used the tragedy to highlight the differences in how addiction is addressed globally, noting that while there is more open discussion regarding the issue in the United States, there remains a significant stigma and silence in Greece.
He characterized addiction as a “modern disease” that affects individuals regardless of wealth, beauty, or fame, warning that the consequences remain the same for everyone.
