Vasilis Zoulias discusses struggle with alcohol addiction
Greek fashion designer Vasilis Zoulias has spoken candidly about his long struggle with alcohol addiction and his journey toward recovery. During an appearance on the program ‘Kalýtera Argá’ on Wednesday, October 7, Zoulias described the psychological toll of his addiction and the cycle of disappointment he experienced during failed attempts to quit.
Zoulias reflected on a period of significant personal crisis following an incident where he jumped from the first floor of the Evelpidon courts. He noted that despite having a successful career, a home in Kolonaki, and a glamorous lifestyle, addiction remained a constant presence. He described the torment of attempting to quit for nearly two decades, stating, ‘Do you know what agony it is to be 19 and tell yourself “I must quit on Monday” and have 19 years pass until that Monday?’
Emphasizing that addiction is a lifelong management process rather than a temporary hurdle, Zoulias highlighted the importance of participating in support groups. He remarked that the disease of addiction never truly ends, noting that members of his group view it as a condition that only leaves once they are ‘under the earth’.
