Vasko Vasilev celebrates 56 years and a distinguished musical career
Bulgarian violinist Vasko Vasilev is marking his 56th birthday, reflecting on a career that transitioned from a child prodigy at the Bulgaria Hall to an international star. Born in Sofia in 1970, Vasilev moved to Moscow at age 10 on a state scholarship to further his musical education.
His international reputation was solidified through successes at prestigious competitions, including the Jacques Thibaud in Paris, the Carl Flesch in London, and the Paganini in Genoa, earning him the nickname ‘Super Paganini’. His career milestones include becoming a soloist at the Lyon Opera at age 21 and serving as the youngest-ever concertmaster in the history of the Royal Opera House in London, a position he attained in 1994.
Beyond performing, Vasilev has expanded into conducting, production, and artistic direction. A major highlight of his career occurred in 2023 when he served as concertmaster for the orchestra during the coronation of King Charles III at Westminster Abbey. He continues to balance his work in London with performances for Bulgarian audiences.
