Vaso Tsarouha: Man identified in social media defamation case

The Greek Cybercrime Division has identified a man suspected of managing social media accounts used to post defamatory content and personal data regarding international basketball referee Vaso Tsarouha.

The investigation was launched following a complaint regarding posts made across three different user accounts. According to authorities, the content was defamatory and included the unauthorized disclosure of Tsarouha's personal information.

Following the complaint, the Athens Court of First Instance ordered an urgent preliminary investigation. To identify the users, the Hellenic Police conducted a digital investigation that included correspondence with social media platforms and a telecommunications service provider.

Through the analysis of electronic traces, police identified the man as the administrator of two of the three accounts involved. A formal case has been filed against him for online defamation and violation of personal data, and the matter has been referred to the competent prosecutorial authorities.
