Vaspia metallurgical plant closure leaves 60 workers unpaid in Lanús
Approximately 60 workers at the Vaspia S.A.I.C. metallurgical plant in Lanús, Argentina, are protesting following the closure of the facility and the non-payment of wages. Employees report that they have not received salaries or mid-year bonuses (aguinaldo) since July, and they allege that mandatory pension and healthcare contributions have also been withheld.
The workers, who specialize in the casting and extrusion of brass and bronze for valves and hardware, claim the company is facing a crisis due to a lack of raw materials. Some employees have accused the owners of a planned emptying of the company, noting that materials are being imported from abroad instead of being replenished locally.
As the owners have reportedly ceased to appear at the plant, workers are demanding either the full payment of owed debts and severance or the opportunity to form a cooperative to continue operations. The situation has left numerous families without income and created significant uncertainty regarding the future of their jobs.
