Vaspia metallurgical plant faces crisis and unpaid wages in Argentina

The metallurgical company Vaspia, located in Lanús, Argentina, is facing a severe crisis that threatens its permanent closure. Workers at the plant, which has been operating since the 1960s, report that they have not received salaries or bonuses for over two and a half months. In an unusual development, management reportedly offered to settle the debt by providing 300 kilograms of surplus bronze instead of cash.

Employees describe a state of uncertainty, noting that owners have become unresponsive despite ongoing deductions for pensions and social security. The factory's last smelting furnace has been shut down, and workers have received written authorization to dispose of the remaining raw materials.

The situation at Vaspia reflects a broader decline in Argentina's metallurgical sector. According to reports from the Association of Metallurgical Industrialists of the Argentine Republic (ADIMRA), the industry saw a 6.1 percent drop in activity in August. Analysts attribute this downturn to increased import competition and a general contraction in domestic industrial activity.
