Vaspia metalworking factory closes in Lanús amid wage disputes

The metalworking factory Vaspia, located in Lanús Este, has permanently closed its facilities, leaving approximately 60 workers unemployed. Following a hearing with the Ministry of Labor of the Province of Buenos Aires, the company's owners provided written authorization for employees to sell raw materials remaining at the plant to help cover unpaid debts.

Workers reported that they have not received salaries since July, nor have they been paid their mandatory bonuses or severance. Additionally, employees alleged that deductions intended for pension and social security contributions were made from their pay but not transferred to the appropriate entities.

As part of the settlement attempt, the company instructed workers to empty the last functioning furnace, which contained approximately 300 kilograms of bronze, for sale. Some workers expressed dissatisfaction with this proposal, arguing that the value of the metal is insufficient to cover their legal obligations. While some staff suggested forming a cooperative to continue operations, the owners have reportedly ceased appearing at the plant.
