Vasto environmental groups demand transparency over 10 million euro water fund

Six environmental and consumer associations are calling on the Municipality of Vasto to convene the ‘Tavolo per l’Ambiente’ (Environment Table) to discuss a 10 million euro funding allocation for Sasi. The funds are intended for water infrastructure improvements, including digitalization, district management, and the repair of water networks within the ATO n. 6 Chietino region.

The requesting groups—including Italia Nostra del Vastese, Konsumer Italia, Pro loco Città del Vasto, Gruppo Trail Abruzzo, WWF Abruzzo, and La Conviviale—are seeking transparency regarding the planned interventions and the criteria used to establish priorities. They have requested that Sasi’s president and technical representatives attend the meeting to provide details on the mapping of water networks and scheduled works.

Additionally, the associations are advocating for the use of low-impact technologies, such as trenchless or ‘no-dig’ systems, to minimize environmental disruption during pipe repairs. They are also emphasizing the need for clear protocols to ensure citizen participation and information access throughout the design and implementation phases of these projects.
